English Skills Guide

The international language of aviation is English. The New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority requires all applicants for a NZ pilot licence to be able to read, speak, and understand English fluently. All communications and instructions are delivered in English.

IAANZ classes are taught in English. If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate that you have the required level of English to obtain your IAANZ qualification. If you do not have a minimal level of English, you may not have the necessary abilities for aircraft operation and competency.

To ensure that you can succeed in your programme, we need to test your English level. IAANZ accepts no responsibility if you fail courses due to a lack of English proficiency. If your English isn’t up to standard, IAANZ will recommend additional English lessons.

More recognised English proficiency certificates may be found on the NZQA website under Internationally Recognised English Proficiency Outcomes for International Students.
